This week we went in and got most of our motion capture recorded for our animatic screening. It took us a minute, and by that, I mean a couple hours to get things figured out. Originally, we had planned to use two suits for a scene that involved two characters. However having them both up at the same time was just confusing the system and was making both of the suits show up as incomplete. Which, one sensor for one of the suits was in fact not working so after we put that suit away things ended up going a bit smoother. We were still having an issue with the systems, which we could not figure out. But after a good restart of the whole PC things ended up fixing itself. We were getting really weird measurements like the big head in the photo but after restarting and loading in the saved preset measurements we got a normal proportioned body. When in doubt turn it off an on again.

So we ended up really only getting the animations recorded for the main character however she is the only one who has full body/ walking shots. With like 70% of the animations blocked now we were okay with that.

Again, we originally wanted to used the mocap gloves as well to get some good hand shots however after two hours in of trying to get everything connected we decided to just get the full body shots. Which thankfully we decided to do because the process just for capturing the body shots took about 5-6 hours.

We did get all of our recordings exported to maya as fbxs though and they are all labeled and ready. We stopped there but next time we will be exporting these to unreal and then re-targeting the animation onto a meta human. I don't think we will have our characters rigged and ready for that yet so for the animatic, to show our blocking animation, we will be using meta humans. Along with this process we have also been importing all of our assets into our Unreal project as well. So I think our progress for the animatic in two weeks is going well. Maybe in the future after the animatic deadline we will go back and get the mocap gloves working and get some good hand shots done as well.
